The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed on Thursday satisfaction with the decision of the Committee of Deputy Ministers (composed of Human Rights) of the Council of Europe (CoE) to maintain the monitoring process in the implementation of the Decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) regarding the Fourth Interstate Appeal of Cyprus against of Turkey (property aspect of displaced persons). This positive development, the Ministry stresses in a press release, "is the result of a systematic diplomatic effort, always in good cooperation with the Law Office of the Republic". "The position of the Republic of Cyprus remains firm that the illegal sale and exploitation of Greek Cypriot properties in the territories occupied by Turkey, which has intensified in recent years, violates the decisions of the ECHR," the Ministry says. The decision, it adds, "confirms the fact that the violations of the property rights of Greek Cypriots in the areas occupied by Turkey continue to exist." The Ministry notes th at "it demonstrates the Committee's determination to ensure that Turkey fully implements the Court's decision and that as long as it continues to not comply with the relevant decisions of the ECHR, the termination of the supervision cannot occur." Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory. Source: Cyprus News Agency
