Tipp City:A former contestant on the US television show American Idol, Caleb Flynn, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of his wife in their Ohio home.
According to Anadolu Agency, Flynn, 40, was convicted on all nine charges against him, including aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn.
The jury reached its verdict in about two hours, dismissing Flynn's claim that an intruder had broken into their home and shot his wife while she slept. Prosecutors stated that Flynn, a former music pastor, shot his 37-year-old wife twice in the back of the head on February 16 and then attempted to stage the scene to look like a break-in through the garage.
Prosecutors argued that Flynn's motive was to pursue a relationship with another woman, referencing messages between Flynn and the woman, including one sent the night before the murder that stated: "I choose you. I'm free. Actions will come tomorrow."
The murder weapon was not recovered, but digital evidence was presented showing Flynn's movement in the house at a time he claimed to be asleep. The couple's daughters, aged 9 and 11, were in the house during the incident.
During the sentencing, letters from Flynn's daughters were read, expressing their confusion and urging him to admit his guilt. Flynn apologized for breaking his wedding vows and causing pain to his family, admitting to lying about many things, but he maintained his innocence regarding the murder.
Flynn's attorney indicated plans to appeal the conviction. Flynn had briefly appeared on American Idol in 2013 but did not progress to the main competition in Hollywood.
