Former German President Wulff Explores Iznik’s Historic Sites in Trkiye

Iznik: Germany's former President Christian Wulff recently embarked on a tour of historical sites in the district of Iznik, located in Trkiye's northwestern Bursa province. Accompanied by his daughter Annelena and close friends, Wulff explored notable locations, including the Istanbul Gate of the ancient walls and the Afyon Sultan Mosaic Excavation Area.

According to Anadolu Agency, Wulff expressed his admiration for Iznik during his visit to the Ancient Theater, which marked the final stop of his tour. He highlighted the rich historical and cultural heritage of Trkiye, mentioning the extraordinary archaeological discoveries made in Iznik. Among these findings is a basilica, which Wulff found particularly impressive. He noted that the site is likely to attract Christian visitors from around the world in the near future.

Wulff further emphasized the significance of a recent discovery in Iznik, which includes what is believed to be the world's earliest depiction of Jesus, dating back to approximately 380 AD. As a Christian, Wulff shared the emotional impact of learning about the early development of Christianity in the region, just a few centuries after the birth of Christ. He concluded by stating his belief in Iznik's great potential as an archaeological discovery site.
