Tel aviv: Former Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has urged the establishment of safe shelters for millions of Israelis in anticipation of potential conflict with Iran. Addressing local radio 103 FM, Lieberman, who leads the right-wing Yisrael Beiteinu Party, emphasized the urgency of preparing secure locations for those currently lacking protection.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lieberman highlighted that the decision to engage in war with Iran ultimately rests with US President Donald Trump. He advised Israel to remain calm and patient, acknowledging the limited influence Israel holds over President Trump's critical decisions.

Israel is currently observing the US military escalation in the region and is keenly awaiting the results of the upcoming US-Iran negotiations set for Friday. The nation is particularly concerned about the possibility of an Iranian missile attack should the US launch an assault on Iran.

Tensions have escalated as both Washington and Tel Aviv have increased pressure on Tehran following the outbreak of anti-government protests in Iran at the end of December. Iranian authorities have accused the US and Israel of supporting individuals they label as 'rioters' and 'terrorists' involved in the unrest, and Iran has threatened retaliation if attacked.

The US and Israel maintain that Iran aims to develop nuclear weapons, a claim that Tehran denies, asserting that its nuclear activities are intended solely for peaceful purposes, such as generating electricity.
