Paris: French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot and his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, have declared their commitment to strengthening Europe and reaffirmed their continued support for Ukraine. This announcement was made during a joint news conference held in Paris.

According to Anadolu Agency, Barrot emphasized the importance of the Franco-German partnership, describing it as a driving force for a united, sovereign, and resilient Europe. He outlined a comprehensive agenda aimed at revitalizing the bilateral relationship and enhancing European security, competitiveness, and economic alignment.

Barrot confirmed plans to bolster European defense capabilities and support the European defense industrial and technological base. Wadephul supported these statements, urging Europe to ensure its own security and continue its robust support for Ukraine in response to Russian aggression. This includes supplying weapons to Ukraine and tightening economic sanctions against Russia.

Barrot and Wadephul welcomed Europe's approval of a significant sanctions package against Russia and encouraged similar actions from the United States. They discussed the Middle East, advocating for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and negotiations for a lasting conflict resolution.

Barrot called for urgent humanitarian improvements in the Gaza Strip, monitoring Israel's commitments. Wadephul expressed conditional support for the Syrian transitional government, emphasizing civilian protection and regional sovereignty.

Addressing migration and border security, Barrot acknowledged Germany's border control measures while stressing the importance of maintaining free movement within the Schengen Area. The ministers also expressed support for a negotiated resolution with the US regarding tariffs imposed during Donald Trump's presidency.
