Sanaa: France and Iceland signed a roadmap on Monday aimed at enhancing cooperation in security, Arctic affairs, energy, and political dialogue during French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot's visit to Reykjavik.

According to Anadolu Agency, the agreement marks a significant step in structuring a Franco-Icelandic partnership that addresses mutual challenges. Barrot emphasized the importance of this collaboration at a joint press conference with Icelandic Foreign Minister Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir. The roadmap is set to broaden cooperation in diverse sectors, including energy, industry, digital technologies, Arctic research, and strategies to counter hybrid threats.

Both France and Iceland, founding members of NATO, share a distinct responsibility for North Atlantic security. Barrot noted the intention to deepen their defense cooperation, highlighting the Arctic as a region of increasing geopolitical tension due to Russia's military activities and China's growing influence.

Regarding Iceland's potential revival of EU accession talks, Barrot stated that the decision ultimately rests with the Icelandic people, suggesting that there is no downside to resuming negotiations.
