France: France has joined international demands for the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiye, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Gaza Strip, who was detained by Israel, Foreign Ministry spokesman Pascal Confavreux said Thursday. Confavreux emphasized the importance of addressing humanitarian concerns in the situation involving Dr. Abu Safiye.
According to Anadolu Agency, Confavreux informed reporters that France is aware of the ongoing calls for Abu Safiye's release. He highlighted the urgency of the matter by referencing the troubling reports regarding Abu Safiye's health condition. "In view of the extremely worrying information about his state of health, France joins international calls for his release on humanitarian grounds," Confavreux stated.
Confavreux also mentioned that the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement should commence, urging the Israeli army to withdraw from the territory as part of this process. The arrest of Abu Safiye occurred on December 27, 2024, when the Israeli army conducted a raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital. During this operation, the facility was reportedly destroyed, and Abu Safiye was taken at gunpoint, subsequently putting the hospital out of service.
