Brussels: French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has indicated that France is prepared to reimpose global embargoes on Iran if a substantial nuclear agreement is not reached by late August. Barrot, speaking at the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, emphasized that Iran has violated commitments made a decade ago regarding the Iranian nuclear deal, justifying the reapplication of embargoes on weapons, banking, and nuclear equipment initially lifted 10 years ago.

According to Anadolu Agency, Barrot stated that without a "firm, tangible, and verifiable commitment" from Iran, the embargoes would be reinstated "by the end of August at the latest." He advocated for a diplomatic process to achieve a "negotiated settlement and oversight" of Iran's nuclear activities. Barrot also called for an immediate ceasefire and the release of hostages held by Hamas, urging Israel to lift the financial blockade on the Palestinian Authority and pay the 2 billion pounds ($2.3 billion) it owes.

Barrot further urged Israel to halt the "colonization" of the West Bank, specifically criticizing the E1 settlement project, which he described as a threat to the two-state solution. He suggested that the European Union should sanction those responsible for violent colonization and cease financial support for such activities.

In addition, Barrot addressed Washington's recent decision to impose 30% tariffs on EU goods, describing it as "an unfriendly act" that undermines the relationship between the US and the EU. He highlighted the interdependence of the US and European economies, emphasizing the need for mutual cooperation.
