France Summons Iranian Ambassador Over Alleged Disinformation Campaign

Paris:France has summoned Iran's ambassador to Paris in response to what it claims is a "disinformation campaign" by Iranian authorities regarding student protests in France. This action was disclosed in a statement from the French Foreign Ministry.

According to Anadolu Agency, the ministry communicated to the Iranian ambassador that online content shared by official Iranian Foreign Ministry accounts was "absolutely unacceptable" and false. The summoning of the ambassador was initiated by Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot.

France has dismissed the recent summons of its ambassador in Tehran as unfounded. The French Foreign Ministry emphasized that the summoning of its ambassador on October 6 in Tehran was without basis, urging an end to what it termed "disgraceful provocations."

Iran's state broadcaster IRIB reported that the Iranian government summoned the French ambassador over the handling of protests, which IRIB described as a "violent handling of student protests" and accused France of "widespread human rights violations."

Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, accused France of double standards, highlighting a perceived inconsistency between France's calls for restraint in dealing with Iranian protests and its approach to student protests within its own borders.

The student-led protests in France began in late September over issues such as staff shortages, overcrowded classrooms, and inadequate school facilities. These protests have since spread to various schools across several French cities.
