Ankara: France defeated hosts Germany 86-64 on Saturday to reach the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup final for the first time in their history.

According to Anadolu Agency, France made a strong start to the semifinal, taking a 25-23 lead after the opening quarter before extending their advantage to 45-38 at halftime. The French continued to pull away after the break, carrying a 64-50 lead into the final quarter before completing a comfortable 22-point victory.

Gabby Williams led France with a game-high 22 points, while Janelle Salaun added 14 and Marine Johannes scored 13. Valeriane Ayayi contributed 10 points and Leila Lacan four as France became the first team to book their place in Sunday's final.

Nyara Sabally and Marie Guelich led Germany with 12 points each, while Leonie Fiebich added nine. The victory also guaranteed France their first Women's World Cup medal since winning bronze in 1953.

France will face the winner of Saturday's other semifinal between Spain and the United States in Sunday's final in Berlin. Despite the defeat, Germany still have a chance to secure a historic medal when they face the loser of the US-Spain semifinal in Sunday's third-place game.
