Sanaa: France is calling for the European Union to halt the importation of products originating from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, as stated by Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot during a press conference on Monday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Barrot made this appeal in a joint press conference with Icelandic Foreign Minister Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir in Reykjavik. He emphasized that France and Europe cannot condone a situation where European trade effectively supports activities deemed illegal, which ultimately undermines peace efforts between Israel and Palestine.

During his visit to Iceland, Barrot outlined France's stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, underscoring the country's unwavering support for a two-state solution. He highlighted Iceland's recognition of the State of Palestine 15 years ago and noted that France had followed suit last year, reinforcing the call for a peaceful resolution.

Barrot further stressed the importance of the forthcoming Palestinian parliamentary elections scheduled for November 28. He described these elections as "an absolute necessity" to ensure the legitimacy of the Palestinian parliament and to set the stage for future presidential elections.
