Paris: France on Tuesday welcomed the UN Security Council's adoption of a US-drafted resolution on Gaza. "France welcomes the adoption yesterday by the United Nations Security Council of Resolution 2803 endorsing the peace plan for Gaza," the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

According to Anadolu Agency, the French Ministry also expressed appreciation for the US commitment and their significant efforts, in collaboration with Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, to achieve an agreement on a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the resumption of humanitarian aid to Gaza. The Ministry emphasized that the implementation of the resolution must occur within a defined political and legal framework, adhering to relevant Security Council resolutions, internationally agreed parameters, and the New York Declaration on the implementation of the two-state solution.

The statement highlighted the importance of this framework being grounded in respect for international law, international humanitarian law, international human rights law, and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. France, as a permanent member of the Security Council, participated constructively in the negotiations surrounding this text. By voting in favor of the resolution, France aims to support the political momentum towards achieving a lasting end to the conflict in Gaza.

The UN Security Council on Monday passed a US-drafted resolution establishing a transitional Board of Peace and authorizing an International Stabilization Force to manage governance, reconstruction, and security efforts in the Gaza Strip. The resolution received 13 votes in favor, with Russia and China abstaining, and authorizes the International Stabilization Force and the Board of Peace to operate until December 31, 2027.

Since October 2023, nearly 69,500 Palestinians have been killed, predominantly women and children, and more than 170,700 wounded in ongoing hostilities that have devastated much of the enclave.
