Paris: France's largest trade union, CGT, has announced a one-day nationwide strike next month to protest against mass layoffs. The strike is scheduled for December 12, as the union condemns what it describes as a "sadly historic bloodletting in the industry." According to Anadolu Agency, CGT revealed that 180,000 jobs are under threat, with 252 layoff plans currently in place. In a post on X, the union emphasized its determination to resist these layoffs, stating, "We will not let this happen with impunity." CGT Secretary General Sophie Binet has urged the government to implement an emergency action plan in response to the employers' decision to lay off thousands of workers. Binet emphasized that the government should intervene to prevent the closure of industrial workplaces and avert mass layoffs.
