Paris: France’s President Emmanuel Macron condemned deadly Israeli strikes on Lebanon in separate phone calls with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Wednesday, expressing Paris’ full solidarity in their aftermath.

According to Anadolu Agency, Macron articulated France’s unwavering support in response to the “indiscriminate strikes” carried out by Israel on Lebanese territory, which resulted in significant civilian casualties. He shared his sentiments on US social media platform X, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the substantial loss of life and injuries.

The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that at least 112 individuals were killed and 837 others sustained injuries in the Israeli attacks on Wednesday. These figures, as noted by the ministry, are preliminary and may change as more information becomes available.

In a statement, the Israeli army confirmed that it targeted over 100 sites within a rapid timeframe of “10 minutes” in regions including Beirut, the Beqaa Valley, and southern Lebanon. This was described as the most extensive coordinated attack since the onset of the current offensive.

Macron expressed his strongest condemnation of these actions and highlighted the potential repercussions on the recently established ceasefire. He noted that such strikes threaten its sustainability and stressed the importance of Lebanon being fully covered by the ceasefire agreement.

The French president also reiterated his country’s commitment to assisting Lebanese authorities in maintaining national sovereignty and progressing towards the disarmament of Hezbollah.
