New york: French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, emphasizing France's commitment to a two-state solution in the Israel-Palestine conflict, as conveyed by the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN conference on Palestine in New York, where Barrot reviewed the Middle East situation. He reiterated France's dedication to a peaceful coexistence between Israel and Palestine, highlighting President Emmanuel Macron's recent announcement in September regarding the recognition of the state of Palestine as a significant step in a broader global political effort supported by the conference.

The discussions between Barrot and Guterres also encompassed the situation in Lebanon. As Lebanon approaches negotiations in August concerning the renewal of UNIFIL's mandate, the French Minister underscored the crucial role of the UN Mission in maintaining Lebanon's security and regional stability. He reiterated France's commitment through its military contingent's participation.

Further, the dialogue touched upon Iran's nuclear program, with both parties advocating for a "negotiated settlement" under the Non-Proliferation Treaty framework. The French Foreign Ministry stated France's readiness to contribute to this diplomatic effort alongside its international partners.
