Paris: The French foreign minister announced plans to urge a ceasefire in Gaza during his forthcoming visit to the Middle East. This announcement comes amid ongoing tensions and a prolonged blockade affecting the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot expressed his intentions during an interview with Franceinfo, a public broadcaster. Barrot emphasized the importance of a ceasefire as an urgent priority during his meetings with counterparts in several Arab countries committed to peace in Gaza. He also highlighted the necessity of allowing humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli blockade has surpassed the 50-day mark.

Barrot articulated France's broader vision for peace, advocating for a political solution that involves two states coexisting peacefully and securely. He also mentioned that the French government is considering recognizing a Palestinian state at a strategically advantageous moment, aiming to foster conditions conducive to its establishment.

The minister's itinerary includes a first stop in Iraq, where he reiterated France's commitment to combating the Daesh (ISIS) terror group and supporting Iraq in becoming a regional stabilizing force. Barrot's visit is scheduled to include Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia from April 23 to April 25.
