Istanbul: Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday emphasized the necessity for a robust global economic growth path during a videoconference convened among G7 representatives, China, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This was part of the Global Convergence Summit for Growth, organized ahead of the G7 Summit slated for June 15-17.
According to Anadolu Agency, Macron articulated the need for sound domestic policies and effective international cooperation to address challenges related to global imbalances. He highlighted that these imbalances have significantly widened, reaching levels not observed since the 2007-2008 global financial crisis. Macron attributed the exacerbation of these imbalances to the current global geopolitical situation.
Macron further asserted that an international consensus is forming on several critical issues as global imbalances pose a threat to economic growth and financial stability. He pointed out the urgency of action and the acceptance of shared responsibility as key consensus points. Macron emphasized the importance of synchronization and coordination among Europe, China, and the US in addressing these imbalances.
He warned of the risks associated with addressing imbalances in a disorderly manner and stressed the need for a coordinated approach among major global economies. Macron also noted Europe's lag in productivity and investment and expressed his anticipation for policy-oriented, inclusive discussions to improve coordination of key policies.
Macron concluded by underscoring the collective commitment required to rebalance growth models and deliver stability and prosperity.
