Gaza:The ceasefire agreement announced as part of the Trump Gaza plan on September 29, 2025, which took effect on October 10, was initially seen as a diplomatic victory aimed at ending violence in the region. However, the situation on the ground presents a starkly different reality.
According to Anadolu Agency, despite the global support for the ceasefire, Israel has maintained significant control over Gaza, and the humanitarian conditions have worsened. Since the agreement, at least 1,471 Palestinians have been killed and 5,189 wounded by Israeli forces. The ongoing blockade has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, with no hospitals in Gaza fully operational and morgues overwhelmed with new fatalities.
The humanitarian provisions of the ceasefire have also fallen short, with aid deliveries averaging fewer than 100 trucks daily, far below the planned 600 trucks. The resulting lack of resources has left approximately 61 million tons of debris in Gaza, posing further risks to the population. Recent building collapses have caused additional casualties, including children.
Israeli military control over Gaza has expanded, worsening the living conditions for Palestinians. The expanded control contradicts the ceasefire's intended goals, as international efforts have failed to enforce the agreement's provisions effectively. The focus on disarming Palestinian resistance, while neglecting the root causes of the conflict, continues to create tension.
The danger of establishing a new status quo without addressing the underlying issues remains high. The international community must ensure accountability and prevent the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Gaza. A ceasefire without genuine enforcement and a commitment to ending the occupation cannot replace the quest for Palestinian freedom.
