Gaza Death Toll Reaches 45,550 Amid Continuing Israeli Strikes

GAZA CITY: At least 27 more Palestinians have been killed in recent Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, increasing the cumulative death toll since last year to 45,541, according to the Health Ministry in the enclave. The ongoing assaults have also resulted in 108,338 injuries, as reported by the ministry on Monday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Health Ministry's statement detailed that Israeli forces were responsible for the deaths of 27 individuals and injuries to 149 others in three separate attacks on families over the past 24 hours. The ministry further revealed that many individuals remain trapped under rubble and in streets, as rescuers face difficulties accessing these areas due to the ongoing conflict.

The hostilities in Gaza have persisted since a Hamas attack on October 7 of last year, despite a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire. The second year of the conflict has drawn substantial international criticism, with officials and organizations condemning the attacks and the blockage of aid deliveries as an intentional effort to decimate the population.

In a significant legal development, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the Gaza conflict. Additionally, Israel is confronting a genocide case at the International Court of Justice, further complicating the international legal landscape surrounding its military actions in Gaza.
