Gaza Reconstruction Efforts Set to Commence as Priorities Finalized

Gaza: The National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) has announced the finalization of its recovery and reconstruction priorities, with plans set to commence field operations as soon as conditions allow.

According to Anadolu Agency, the announcement was made during a coordination meeting chaired by NCAG head Ali Shaath, involving representatives from the European Union, the United Nations, and the World Bank. The meeting focused on discussing the outcomes of a rapid damage and needs assessment in the Gaza Strip.

Shaath stated that the assessment has been adopted as the primary reference for developing recovery and reconstruction plans. He emphasized that the committee has completed sectoral priorities and implementation plans, enabling it to initiate work immediately once necessary conditions are met.

He outlined that priorities span key sectors such as health, housing, infrastructure, economy, agriculture, telecommunications, and social protection. The goal is to ensure resources are allocated to the most urgent needs. Representatives from the EU, UN, and World Bank presented findings on the extent of damage and losses in critical sectors, along with the requirements for restoring basic services and supporting economic and social recovery in Gaza.

The participants highlighted the importance of Palestinian leadership in recovery and reconstruction efforts, underscoring the committee's role in coordinating both national and international efforts towards sustainable reconstruction.

At the meeting's conclusion, participants reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing technical cooperation and coordination with the committee to support Gaza's recovery, reconstruction, and sustainable development efforts. The committee, a non-political entity managing civil affairs in Gaza, has been operating from Cairo since January but has yet to start work on the ground in the Gaza Strip.

In related developments, Hamas announced that it held discussions with mediators and representatives from the Board of Peace regarding the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem reported that the talks achieved "broad understandings" on several issues, including the committee's entry into Gaza and the involvement of international forces, along with discussions about Palestinian weapons.
