Washington: German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is set to meet US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in Washington on September 15. This meeting marks a significant development following Hegseth's earlier decision to not meet Pistorius, as reported by Politico on Thursday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting is scheduled to coincide with Pistorius' visit to the United States for a ceremony in Texas, which will celebrate the rollout of Germany's first F-35 fighter jets. The report, citing NATO and US defense officials, highlights the importance of this engagement amidst the ongoing tensions between Berlin and Washington, particularly concerning the conflicts in Iran and Ukraine.

Tensions have been heightened following President Donald Trump's directive to withdraw 5,000 US troops from Germany. This decision came after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz voiced criticism over the US's involvement in Iran. This backdrop sets the stage for the upcoming discussions between Pistorius and Hegseth, where they are expected to address several critical issues, including a recent attempted Russian drone attack at a German airport, and the Pentagon's ongoing review of the US military presence in Europe.
