Brussels: Global crude steel production fell 1.6% in September compared to the same period last year, due to a 4.6% decline in Chinese production, according to the World Steel Association (Worldsteel). The Brussels-based group said global production dropped to 141.8 million tons in September.

According to Anadolu Agency, production in China, the world's largest steel producer, fell 4.6% to 73.5 million tons. Production in Japan was also off 3.7% to 6.4 million tons. In contrast, crude steel production rose 6.7% to 6.9 million tons in the US and 13.2% to 13.6 million tons in India.

Brazil's crude steel production fell 3.2% to 2.8 million tons in September, while production in Russia is estimated to have declined 3.8% to 5.2 million tons. Germany's production fell 0.6% to 3 million tons and Trkiye's rose 3.3%, reaching 3.2 million tons.

Global production, meanwhile, declined 1.6% from January to September, compared to the same period last year, falling to 1.37 billion tons.
