Copenhagen: The Russian ambassador to Copenhagen has stated that Greenland and Denmark have established a unified stance against perceived threats from the United States regarding the potential seizure of the Arctic island. This development follows high-level discussions held in Washington.

According to Anadolu Agency, Vladimir Barbin, the Russian envoy, discussed in an interview with Russian state news agency Tass that aired on Friday, the increasing solidarity between Greenland and Denmark in response to what he described as US threats involving the possible use of force to take control of the island. Barbin highlighted a meeting that took place on January 14 in Washington, where Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen and Greenland's Vivian Motzfeldt met with US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

During the meeting, Barbin noted that the Danish and Greenlandic representatives spoke "in unison" to safeguard the kingdom's territorial integrity and assert the island's right to self-determination amid discussions over American interests in the Arctic region. He asserted that the future of the island is a matter strictly for Nuuk and Copenhagen to decide internally, although he acknowledged that the Danish government has officially communicated with the US regarding efforts to sway domestic decision-making processes.

Greenland, which operates as a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, has garnered attention from the US due to its strategic location and substantial mineral resources. There are also purported concerns about increased Russian and Chinese activities in the area. Both Denmark and Greenland have firmly dismissed proposals to sell the territory, reiterating Danish sovereignty over the island.
