Ankara: A Hamas delegation, led by group leader Khalil al-Hayya, arrived in Egypt on Sunday to follow up on the implementation of a Gaza ceasefire agreement, following a wave of Israeli airstrikes in the enclave.

According to Anadolu Agency, the group stated that the visit aims to ensure the enforcement of the ceasefire deal with Israel. Despite the ceasefire agreement, at least 20 Palestinians were reportedly killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Sunday.

Israel has accused Hamas of allegedly attacking its troops in the southern city of Rafah, although Hamas has denied these allegations and affirmed its full commitment to the ceasefire agreement. The ceasefire and hostage swap agreement was initially reached between Israel and Hamas on October 10, based on a phased plan presented by US President Donald Trump. The first phase included the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, along with plans for the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.

Since October 2023, the ongoing conflict has resulted in nearly 68,200 deaths and more than 170,200 injuries, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
