Gaza city: The Palestinian resistance group Hamas on Sunday denied media reports about agreeing to surrender its weapons under US President Donald Trump's Gaza plan.
According to Anadolu Agency, media reports earlier said that Hamas had agreed to hand over its weapons to a Palestinian-Egyptian committee under international supervision.
Senior Hamas member Mahmoud Mardawi stated in a declaration, "We categorically deny the fabricated allegations published by several media outlets about the course of the ceasefire negotiations and Hamas' position on handing over weapons." Mardawi further emphasized that these reports are "baseless and aim to distort Hamas' stance and mislead public opinion."
Mardawi urged media outlets to verify information and rely on credible sources, calling on journalists to not fall for rumors or unverified claims. Meanwhile, Egypt is preparing to host delegations from Hamas and Israel on Monday to discuss the details of a prisoner swap deal under Trump's Gaza plan.
On September 29, US President Donald Trump unveiled a 20-point plan, which includes the release of Israeli captives and Palestinian prisoners, a ceasefire, disarmament of Hamas, and the rebuilding of Gaza. While Hamas has agreed to the plan in principle, discussions on the next steps are set to take place in Egypt.
The ongoing conflict has seen the Israeli army kill over 67,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in Gaza since October 2023. The sustained bombardment has left the enclave uninhabitable, leading to starvation and the spread of diseases.
