Gaza: The Palestinian resistance group Hamas announced that its fighters killed an Israeli soldier and seized his weapon during an operation in southern Gaza. The incident reportedly occurred in Abasan al-Kabira, east of Khan Younis, where Hamas fighters engaged with Israeli soldiers and military vehicles.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, stated that its fighters targeted a group of Israeli soldiers using anti-tank shells on a Merkava tank and an armored personnel carrier. The group attempted to capture an Israeli soldier during the operation but cited "field conditions" as a hindrance to the capture.

Hamas also reported targeting an Israeli military excavator with two soldiers onboard using a rocket-propelled grenade in the same area. As of now, there has been no official response or comment from the Israeli army regarding Hamas' claims.

In the broader context of the ongoing conflict, the Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of nearly 57,700 Palestinians, with a majority being women and children, since October 2023. The ongoing military actions have severely impacted the Gaza Strip, causing widespread destruction, food shortages, and the spread of diseases.

In an unprecedented move last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its military actions in the enclave.
