Gaza: The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has announced its intention to hand over the remains of two more Israeli captives in Gaza on Wednesday night, as part of a ceasefire agreement with Israel. The group's armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, specified that the handover will occur at 10 pm local time (1900 GMT).

According to Anadolu Agency, Hamas has stated that it has adhered to its commitments under the ceasefire arrangement. The group emphasized its efforts in delivering all living captives and the bodies it could access. It acknowledged the challenges in locating and recovering the remaining bodies, which require significant effort and specialized equipment.

Last week, a ceasefire agreement was announced by US President Donald Trump, which included a plan to release all Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and initiate a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. The first phase of this agreement commenced on Friday, resulting in Hamas releasing 20 living Israeli hostages and handing over the remains of eight captives, in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.

The subsequent phase of the plan involves establishing a new governing mechanism in Gaza, excluding Hamas, and includes the formation of a multinational force and the disarmament of Hamas.

Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have resulted in the deaths of over 67,900 Palestinians in the enclave, most of whom were women and children, leaving the area largely uninhabitable.
