Beirut: Lebanese group Hezbollah announced that it targeted a "newly established" Israeli military position in southern Lebanon using a drone. In response, the Israeli army stated that the projectile was intercepted.
According to Anadolu Agency, the attack on the Israeli position in the town of Al-Bayyada was claimed by Hezbollah as a reaction to what it described as Israel's violation of the ceasefire and continued aggression against southern Lebanese villages through artillery shelling. The Israeli army reported a 'hostile' drone launched by Hezbollah, which was intercepted south of the 'forward defense line' in southern Lebanon. The army confirmed that the drone did not enter Israeli territory, and no sirens were activated.
Despite the 10-day ceasefire mediated by US President Donald Trump that came into effect on April 17 in Lebanon, the Israeli army has intensified its attacks on several towns in southern Lebanon through artillery shelling. These attacks have resulted in the demolition of homes and infrastructure. Since March 2, Israeli actions have expanded in Lebanon, leading to 2,454 deaths, 7,658 injuries, and the displacement of over 1 million people, based on official figures.
Lebanese and Israeli officials engaged in talks at the ambassadorial level in Washington on April 15, marking their first such discussions in 43 years. A second round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in Washington on Thursday, as reported by a senior Lebanese official source to Anadolu.
