Suwayda: The Hikmat al-Hajri group, currently engaged in conflict with the Syrian government in the southern province of Suwayda, has called for the establishment of a corridor into the territory held by the PKK/YPG terror group.

According to Anadolu Agency, the group issued a statement on social media demanding an 'open path' from Suwayda to northeastern Syria, an area under the control of PKK/YPG militants. Additionally, they urged Jordan's King Abdullah II to facilitate the opening of a border crossing between Suwayda and Jordan.

The PKK/YPG, operating under the name SDF in Syria, orchestrated a demonstration in support of the groups clashing with security forces in Suwayda in Hasakah's city center on Wednesday. The organization is reportedly preparing to dispatch a shipment to Suwayda under the pretext of 'humanitarian aid.' Furthermore, the PKK/YPG engaged in hostilities with the Syrian army in the Dayr Hafir region east of Aleppo on Wednesday and subsequently deployed reinforcements to the area.

The recent unrest in Suwayda began on July 13, when small-scale skirmishes erupted between Bedouin Arab tribes and Druze armed groups. Druze groups launched attacks on Syrian security forces, resulting in numerous casualties among soldiers. The escalating conflict led to a temporary ceasefire, which was soon violated, prompting Israeli military intervention targeting Syrian security forces.

On July 16, Israeli air forces conducted strikes on key Syrian sites, including the presidential compound, General Staff Headquarters, and Defense Ministry. Despite the reestablishment of a ceasefire between the government and local groups in Suwayda on the same day, Israeli airstrikes continued to target Damascus and Daraa. The withdrawal of security forces from Suwayda has resulted in an estimated loss of hundreds of lives due to the ongoing clashes and Israeli attacks.
