Houthi Missiles Target Marib as Yemen Army Repels Southern Attack

Marib:Yemen's Houthi group launched four ballistic missiles at the government-controlled city of Marib late Monday, according to local authorities and military officials. The city, which houses a significant population of displaced people, was the focus of this latest attack.

According to Anadolu Agency, the local government in Marib reported that the missiles were aimed at the densely populated area. However, no immediate information on casualties or damage was provided by the authorities.

This incident followed a previous missile attack in which the Houthis fired eight ballistic missiles at Marib, without detailed reports on the outcome. On October 15, a similar attack involved nine ballistic missiles and seven additional projectiles targeting residential neighborhoods.

Marib remains a critical stronghold for the government and is a hub for oil and gas production, accommodating over 2.2 million displaced individuals as per government data.

In a separate development, Yemen's army announced on Monday that it had thwarted a Houthi attack on the Kahbub front in the Lahj governorate's western region in the south. The Southern Giants Brigades, affiliated with the army, stated that the Houthi forces launched multiple attack waves, leading to prolonged clashes involving various weapons.

Backed by the Saudi-led coalition, the government forces managed to repel the attackers, inflicting casualties on the Houthi fighters and destroying their military equipment. However, the brigades did not disclose specific casualty numbers.

Since the Houthis took control of the capital Sanaa and several other governorates in 2014, Yemen has been engulfed in conflict. In 2015, a Saudi-led coalition intervened to support the internationally recognized government. The latest bout of fighting began in July, following the collapse of a UN-brokered truce established in 2022.
