Tel Aviv: The Yemeni Houthi group on Saturday said it targeted Israel's Nevatim Airbase with a Palestine-2 hypersonic ballistic missile.

According to Anadolu Agency, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree stated in a televised announcement that the missile "successfully reached its target and the interception systems failed to stop it."

Earlier in the day, the Israeli army reported that its air defense systems intercepted a missile launched from Yemen before it could enter Israeli airspace, which caused sirens to sound in several regions.

The Houthis have been targeting vessels in the Red and Arabian seas, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden since November 2023. These actions are declared to be in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where over 51,000 individuals have lost their lives due to an Israeli offensive that began in October 2023.

The attacks were paused when a ceasefire in Gaza was established in January between Israel and Hamas, a Palestinian resistance group. However, the assaults resumed after Israel renewed airstrikes on the enclave last month.
