Riyadh:Yemen's Houthi group announced that it targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a ballistic missile, asserting it successfully struck its target.
According to Anadolu Agency, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree stated that the missile attack disrupted air traffic at the airport. He issued a warning to all airlines globally, advising them of the risks of continuing flights in Saudi airspace, which he described as a "theater" for Houthi military operations. However, Saree noted that the airspace over the Muslim holy sites in Mecca and Medina is excluded from this warning.
The conflict in Yemen has persisted since the Houthis took control of the capital Sanaa and several other provinces in September 2014. This led to the intervention of a Saudi-led coalition in March 2015 to support the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
The military situation has escalated significantly since July, representing the most intense fighting in Yemen since a UN-brokered truce in April 2022. In September, the Houthis captured key areas in Hudaydah and Taiz provinces and advanced to Mayyun Island in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
