Houthis Claim Multiple Missile and Drone Strikes on Saudi Targets

Riyadh:Yemen's Houthi group announced on Saturday that it executed seven military operations involving ballistic missiles and drones targeting various strategic sites across Saudi Arabia. These attacks were reportedly in retaliation for Saudi airstrikes on Yemen.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the Houthis stated that King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was among the targets. The group also claimed to have attacked Saudi Aramco's facilities in Yanbu and the Rabigh oil refinery, both located on Saudi Arabia's western Red Sea coast.

Additionally, the Houthis reported targeting crude oil pumping stations and the East-West oil pipeline, which serves as a critical conduit for transporting oil from eastern Saudi Arabia to the Red Sea coast. The group also alleged a precise strike on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, which they said disrupted air traffic.

Further claims included attacks on Najran airport in southern Saudi Arabia, near the Yemeni border, and the Khamis Mushait air base in the southwest, with the Houthis asserting direct hits. These operations were described as responses to Saudi airstrikes in Yemen, which allegedly involved 100 strikes on civilian sites in Sanaa and other regions under Houthi control, resulting in numerous casualties.

The Houthis also accused Saudi Arabia of conducting 3,123 airstrikes and missile attacks since the latest escalation began. Meanwhile, Saudi Civil Defense reported intercepting two Houthi ballistic missiles aimed at the Mecca and Medina regions, with debris falling in four locations including Mecca and Jeddah.

AlEkhbariya, a Saudi channel, detailed that fragments of one missile fell near the holy site of Arafat, close to the Grand Mosque in Mecca. However, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree denied any targeting of holy sites, emphasizing that their operations focused on oil facilities and military bases.

Earlier in the day, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen reported intercepting and destroying two Houthi ballistic missiles directed at the Saudi cities of Taif and Yanbu. The Houthis have maintained control over Yemen's capital, Sanaa, and other areas since 2014, with Saudi Arabia leading a coalition supporting Yemen's internationally recognized government since 2015. The latest bout of fighting commenced in July following the breakdown of a 2022 ceasefire.
