Houthis Urge Evacuation of Aden Airport Amid Conflict Escalation

Aden:Yemen's Houthi group has called for the immediate evacuation of civilians from Aden International Airport amid escalating hostilities between Yemen's internationally recognized government and the Houthis, which have intensified since July.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the Houthis' spokesperson, Yahya Saree, issued a statement on Telegram urging those present at the airport to leave immediately. The warning cited the presence of a Saudi military cargo plane allegedly transporting weapons intended for use against the Yemeni people.

Less than two hours prior to this statement, Saree had released a similar caution directed at civilians. There has been no immediate response from Saudi officials or the Yemeni government concerning the Houthi announcement.

The conflict in Yemen began in earnest when the Houthis took control of Sanaa and several other provinces in September 2014, leading to a civil war. The situation escalated further when a Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015 to support Yemen's internationally recognized government.
