Budapest: Hungarian Prime Minister-elect Peter Magyar confirmed plans on Thursday to unveil "communist-era domestic intelligence" files. "The incoming TISZA government will open communist-era domestic intelligence files," Magyar wrote on US social media platform X. Magyar added that Tisza's lawmakers would not take offices in the House of Representatives building, which he described as "the former headquarters of the secret police and the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party during that period."

According to Anadolu Agency, Balint Ruff, the incoming head of the Prime Minister's Office, stated on Wednesday that the disclosure of the agent files would be among his "initial priorities." The Tisza party's victory against Viktor Orban in the April 12 parliamentary elections concluded Orban's 16-year rule, marking a significant shift in Hungary's political landscape.

Magyar has expressed his hope to be sworn in on May 9 or 10, contingent upon the president's decision regarding the parliamentary meeting schedule. The move to open these files is seen as a step towards transparency and reconciling with Hungary's past under communist rule.
