Bermuda: Hurricane Imelda has intensified and is heading toward Bermuda, prompting a hurricane warning, according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).
According to Anadolu Agency, a second storm, Hurricane Humberto, is also moving through the western Atlantic, creating hazardous surf and rip currents. The NHC announced in a public advisory that swells from both Imelda and Humberto are affecting the Bahamas and are spreading to much of the US east coast.
Forecasters predict that Imelda could strengthen further in the next two days, potentially bringing hurricane conditions to Bermuda by Wednesday evening. The island may experience between 2 to 4 inches (50 to 100 millimeters) of rain, as well as dangerous storm surges and damaging waves.
Hurricane Humberto was reported to be approximately 485 kilometers (300 miles) west of Bermuda, with sustained winds near 130 kph (80 mph). Both storms are contributing to large swells impacting the Bahamas and the US East Coast.
Imelda, the ninth named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, formed on Sunday in the western Atlantic. The season runs from June through November, a period when most tropical cyclones develop in the region.
