IAEA Chief Engages in Critical Talks with Iranian Foreign Minister on Nuclear Program.

Tehran: The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, engaged in discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Thursday during his visit to Iran, focusing on the nation's nuclear program. The talks are part of a two-day visit aimed at addressing ongoing concerns and potential resolutions. According to Anadolu Agency, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei described the discussions as 'very important.' He reiterated that Iran's nuclear program has always been peaceful and expressed Iran's readiness to work genuinely with the United Nations' nuclear watchdog to clarify any misunderstandings. Grossi, who arrived in Tehran on Wednesday evening, is also scheduled to meet with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. His visit takes place against the backdrop of a longstanding dispute between Iran and Western nations regarding its nuclear activities. The context of these talks is influenced by former US President Donald Trump's 2018 decision to withdraw unilaterally from the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran, which led to the reimposition of sanctions on Tehran. The geopolitical landscape has been further complicated by Trump's recent reelection as US president earlier this month.
