The Hague: The International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor has announced the pursuit of an arrest warrant for Myanmar's junta chief, Min Aung Hlaing, over his alleged role in the persecution of Rohingya Muslims. According to Anadolu Agency, the ICC prosecutor, Karim Khan, stated that an extensive investigation provided reasonable grounds to believe that Min Aung Hlaing, who is also the Senior General and Acting President, is criminally responsible for crimes against humanity, including deportation and persecution committed against the Rohingya in Myanmar and Bangladesh between August 25, 2017, and December 31, 2017. The investigation revealed that these crimes were perpetrated by Myanmar Armed Forces with support from national police, border guard police, and non-Rohingya civilians. The move by the ICC marks a significant step in seeking accountability for the atrocities committed during this period, which led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar.
