Istanbul: The International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2025) in Istanbul has emerged as a pivotal event on the global stage, as highlighted by Bilal Topcu, the general manager of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation (TSKGV). Topcu stated that the event has garnered unprecedented international attention, evidenced by record participation from foreign delegations.
According to Anadolu Agency, the 17th edition of this six-day defense fair is being held simultaneously at multiple venues including the Istanbul Fair Center, Ataturk Airport, Wow Hotel, and Atakoy Marina. Organized by KFA Fairs with the support of Trkiye's Defense Industries Secretariat (SSB) and the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, the event has Anadolu as its global communication partner. This year, the fair is hosting ministers, chiefs of staff, commanders, and top representatives from 103 countries, with 44 countries setting up stalls. More than 900 domestic and 400 foreign defense firms are participating.
Bilal Topcu, speaking at the opening ceremony, emphasized that IDEF showcases Trkiye's achievements in the defense sector on a global platform. Reflecting on the fair's modest beginnings in 1993, he expressed pride in the Turkish defense industry's growth and success.
Haluk Gorgun, president of the SSB, described IDEF as a strategic platform for the exchange of ideas, discussion of technologies, and signing of cooperation agreements. He noted the significant advancements of the Turkish defense industry, with homegrown products being utilized effectively by Turkish forces both domestically and internationally. Gorgun highlighted the industry's growth in foreign markets, with the indigenousness rate soaring from 20% to 80%, and exports reaching 185 countries with 230 different products.
Turkish National Defense Minister Yasar Guler underscored the defense industry's role in bolstering the Turkish military and economy, as well as enhancing the country's international influence. He emphasized the importance of partnerships and cooperation in addressing global and regional security challenges. Guler stated that IDEF serves as a major platform for fostering global peace and partnerships by bringing together countries and defense companies.
The 2025 edition of IDEF is designed to contribute to world peace by showcasing and sharing the capabilities of participating nations and companies, with the primary aim of facilitating connections between producers and customers in the defense sector.
