Athens: Improvement of Greek-Turkish relations is 'good news' for regional stability, noted EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Thursday. Making remarks before meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens, Kallas highlighted the positive impact of improved relations between Greece and Turkey on the stability of the Eastern Mediterranean region.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kallas also acknowledged Greece's significant role in enhancing European security. This includes its substantial defense spending and the deployment of troops to Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with the dispatch of warships to the Red Sea as part of the EU's maritime operation Aspides.

Addressing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Kallas stressed the necessity of maintaining support for Ukraine and enforcing sanctions against Russia. She noted that Russia has not shown any inclination towards achieving real peace, thus underscoring the importance of continued pressure.

Kallas further commented on the recent sanctions package that was adopted two weeks ago, stating that it aims to intensify the economic pressure on Russia. She indicated that the sanctions are proving effective, targeting sectors such as energy, finance, and the military industrial base, thereby depriving Russia of substantial financial resources needed to sustain its war efforts.
