India Summons US Diplomat Over Alleged Attack on Vessel Off Oman

India: India on Wednesday summoned a US diplomat in the capital of New Delhi over an "attack" on a vessel off Oman.

According to Anadolu Agency, Indian External Affairs Ministry sources informed that Jason Meeks, charge d'affaires of the US Embassy in New Delhi, was called upon to formally protest the incident involving the ship. The situation escalated after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that US forces had disabled an oil tanker late Tuesday. The vessel was allegedly in violation of a maritime blockade as it attempted to transport oil from Iran.

The Indian government expressed strong condemnation of the attack on the commercial vessel Settebello, which occurred off the coast of Oman. Concerns intensified as the ministry revealed that out of the 24 Indian crew members on board, 21 had been rescued, while three were still reported missing. The incident has prompted significant diplomatic engagement between India and the United States, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
