Ankara: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday expressed unwavering support for Trkiye in its quest for justice amid global uncertainties. In a speech to the Turkish parliament, Prabowo emphasized Indonesia's commitment to standing alongside Trkiye, stating, "We want to stand side by side with Trkiye in defense of justice and righteousness in a world full of uncertainties."

According to Anadolu Agency, Prabowo highlighted the strong ties between Indonesia and Trkiye, acknowledging the historical connection rooted in the Ottoman Empire. He noted, "For us, Trkiye is actually a continuation of the Ottoman Empire and we remember the historical relations between us." Prabowo's official visit to Trkiye began on Wednesday, during which he is scheduled to engage in discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and participate in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum starting Friday.

During his address to Turkish lawmakers, Prabowo, aged 73, shared personal reflections from his youth, naming Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II as his inspirations. These figures, he said, have significantly influenced his views and leadership approach.

Prabowo also addressed the ongoing situation in Palestine, criticizing the perceived hypocrisy of certain countries in ignoring human rights violations in Gaza. He remarked, "Many countries talk about democracy and human rights, but while children and mothers are being bombed and Gazans are dying, many countries pretend that they are not aware of it and ignore human rights violations in Gaza."

In a gesture of solidarity, Prabowo announced Indonesia's plan to offer temporary shelter to at least 1,000 Palestinian medical evacuees and orphaned children from Gaza. The situation in Gaza remains dire, with reports indicating that Israeli actions have resulted in nearly 51,000 deaths, predominantly among women and children, since October 2023. The region has been left in a state of devastation and near uninhabitability.
