Indonesian President Prabowo Lands in US After China Visit.

WASHINGTON: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in the United States early Monday as part of his first international tour since taking office last month. The visit to the US follows his recent trip to China, marking a significant engagement with global powers. According to Anadolu Agency, Prabowo is on a multi-national itinerary that includes stops in Peru, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and various Middle Eastern countries. During his stay in the US, outgoing President Joe Biden is scheduled to host him at the White House on Tuesday. It remains uncertain if Prabowo will meet with President-elect Donald Trump, who secured victory in the US presidential elections on November 5. Prabowo expressed gratitude to the Indonesian community in Washington DC for their warm reception upon his arrival. His subsequent travels will take him to Peru for an Asia Pacific Cooperation forum, followed by participation in the G20 summit in Brazil, representing Indonesia. On his return journey, Prabowo is slated to visit London for discussions with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Before departing Jakarta, Prabowo mentioned planned visits to the Middle East, though he did not specify which countries he would visit. Over the weekend, his engagements in China included meetings with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and National People's Congress Standing Committee Chairman Zhao Leji, culminating in agreements valued at $10 billion with the Chinese business sector. Prabowo emphasized the importance of collaborative relations with China, describing it as a "civilizational power" and advocating for cooperation over confrontation for peace and prosperity. The agreements between Beijing and Jakarta encompass initiatives in the Blue Economy, and both nations have agreed to a historic joint meeting of their foreign and defense ministers next year. Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia's non-aligned stance and its respect for global powers, highlighting a commitment to fostering friendship and advancing the welfare of both nations.
