Iran: Iran has agreed to a draft plan aimed at ending ongoing conflicts and reopening the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz. This development was reported by The New York Times, which cited three senior Iranian officials.
According to Anadolu Agency, the proposed plan seeks to halt hostilities across various fronts, including in Lebanon, while prioritizing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The plan outlines the cessation of the US naval blockade on Iran, thereby permitting unrestricted commercial shipping through the vital waterway. Notably, Iran would refrain from imposing tolls on this passage.
A key aspect of the proposal involves deferring contentious discussions on Iran's nuclear program for separate negotiations, which are expected to occur within 30 to 60 days. Additionally, the plan includes the release of $25 billion in Iranian assets that have been frozen overseas.
The draft agreement was facilitated by mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, as reported by the newspaper. On the same day, US President Donald Trump mentioned that an agreement with Iran had been 'largely negotiated,' though he acknowledged that final details were still under discussion.
