Ankara: Iran and Oman held the inaugural meeting of a joint committee focused on the Strait of Hormuz in Muscat to address current issues related to the strategic sea passageway and its future management, as stated by the Iranian deputy foreign minister.
According to Anadolu Agency, Kazem Gharibabadi, the deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, announced on US social media platform X that the meeting took place during his visit to Muscat alongside Abdulaziz Al-Hinai, the ambassador-at-large at the Omani Foreign Ministry. Discussions during the meeting revolved around current issues concerning the strait, with an emphasis on its future management within the framework of Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and the sovereign rights of coastal states.
