Iran Announces Killing of IRGC Intelligence Chief in US-Israeli Attack

Tehran: Iran announced on Monday that the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Intelligence Organization was killed in a US-Israeli attack. State broadcaster IRIB, referencing an IRGC statement, reported that Maj. Gen. Seyed Majid Khademi was 'martyred' in the strike.

According to Anadolu Agency, Khademi had been appointed head of the IRGC's intelligence arm in June 2025, succeeding Gen. Mohammad Kazemi, who was killed in an Israeli strike. The incident marks a significant escalation in regional tensions, which have intensified since the US and Israel initiated a joint offensive on Iran on February 28. This offensive has resulted in over 1,340 fatalities, including the then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

In response, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries that host US military assets. These retaliatory measures have caused casualties and damage to infrastructure, while also disrupting global markets and aviation.
