Iran Arrests 39 in Tehran for Alleged Ties to Israel and Terrorist Groups

Tehran: Iran's Intelligence Ministry announced on Wednesday the arrest of 39 individuals in Tehran, citing alleged connections to Israel and so-called 'terrorist groups.' The ministry's statement, as relayed by the Mehr News Agency, indicates that 27 of those apprehended are purported members of two organizations labeled by Iran as 'terrorist' entities.

According to Anadolu Agency, one of the suspects reportedly attempted to establish an operational cell within the Sistan and Baluchestan province, equipped with weapons that were subsequently seized by authorities. Among the confiscated items, officials listed 49 improvised explosive devices, two Kalashnikov rifles, 16 handguns, 50 magazines, and over 1,500 rounds of ammunition. Additional items confiscated included stun guns, tear gas, Molotov cocktails, explosive materials, and seven Starlink satellite devices.

The ministry further disclosed that two individuals were accused of conducting online activities aimed at inciting unrest. Others are alleged to have provided intelligence on the locations and movements of security forces.

These arrests occur amidst ongoing tensions marked by US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran since February 28, which have resulted in over 1,340 fatalities, including the death of then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran has executed drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and other nations such as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. These retaliatory actions have led to casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions in global markets and aviation.
