Tehran: A senior official from the UN nuclear watchdog is set to visit Iran within the next 10 days, as confirmed by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Monday. This visit marks a significant diplomatic engagement amid heightened regional tensions.

According to Anadolu Agency, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei announced that the date for the visit of the senior International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) official to Tehran has been established. This visit comes after Iran agreed last month to host a technical team from the IAEA, although the visit will not include inspections of nuclear sites.

The discussions during the visit are expected to revolve around the framework of Iran's cooperation with the UN nuclear agency, especially in the wake of recent Israeli and US attacks on the country. Baqaei emphasized that the IAEA and its officials must operate based on their technical and professional duties, devoid of political influences.

Regarding nuclear negotiations with the US, Baqaei relayed that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi underscored that any future interactions or negotiations would differ from the pre-June 12 situation. The evolving circumstances necessitate addressing the accountability of the US and demanding compensation for military attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities as a central agenda in any forthcoming discussions.

The backdrop of these developments includes a tumultuous period of negotiations between Iran and the US, mediated by Oman, which were disrupted by Israel's surprise attack on June 13. This attack initiated a 12-day conflict, targeting various sites in Iran and prompting retaliatory actions from Tehran. The hostilities concluded with a US-sponsored ceasefire on June 24.
