Tehran:Iran has heard US President Donald Trump's initial reaction to its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days but is still waiting for Washington's final decision through mediators, according to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

According to Anadolu Agency, Araghchi mentioned that Tehran had outlined its conditions for reopening the strategic waterway during meetings in New York, and these conditions were communicated to the US via mediators. Although the US president has given an initial response, Iran has not yet received a formal position through the mediators.

Araghchi emphasized that any progress toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz or advancing negotiations depends on Iran's terms being met. The proposal requires the US to release frozen Iranian assets, lift oil sanctions, and end the naval blockade on Iranian ports. Only then would the strait be reopened, and negotiations on a final agreement could commence.

He stressed that a negotiated solution is the only viable path forward, highlighting Tehran's commitment to diplomacy while asserting Iran's rights. Araghchi reiterated that Iran will not relinquish its rights under pressure.

Earlier, President Trump dismissed Iran's proposal for a swift reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, labeling the terms unacceptable despite Iran's willingness to negotiate. Trump, speaking at the White House, asserted the US's control over the strait and accused Iran of seeking an agreement due to its weakened position.

Araghchi noted that Tehran's conditions for reopening the strait were already outlined in a June memorandum between the two sides, placing the decision squarely in the hands of the United States.
