Iran: Iran announced Thursday that the 'main part' of a text of understanding with the United States had been finalized, while accusing Washington of undermining progress through shifting positions.
According to Anadolu Agency, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated on Iranian state TV that Tehran had made it clear it would not accept what he described as 'illegitimate' demands during indirect contacts with the US. Baghaei emphasized that while the main part of the text had been finalized, Washington's 'contradictory positions' were disrupting the process.
Baghaei further mentioned that the US had recently attempted to impose 'unusual demands' on Tehran, asserting that Iran would 'never surrender to illegitimate conditions.' He also noted that the diplomatic track had been affected by what he described as illegal US actions against Iran.
Despite these challenges, Baghaei highlighted that mediators remain active in facilitating the dialogue and that Tehran had conveyed its positions to them 'very clearly.' His remarks followed US President Donald Trump's announcement of having canceled planned strikes on Iran, stating that discussions and final details of a potential agreement had been approved by multiple regional and international parties.
